Boys of different ages have different ranks in Cub
Scouting. As you go from Tiger Cub (age 7) to
Webelos Scout (age 10), you learn new things and
new skills that you use to meet new challenges as
you get older.
- Tiger Cubs. First-grade boys join a Tiger Cub den, where each boy works with an adult partner on the requirements to earn his Tiger Cub badge.
- Wolf Cub Scouts. Second-grade boys graduate into a Wolf den. They go to weekly den meetings on their own, but their families still help them work on the requirements for the Wolf badge.
- Bear Cub Scouts. Boys in the third grade are members of a Bear den. They also work with their families to do the requirements for the Bear badge, but boys this old have enough knowledge and skill to take on more of the work by themselves.
- Webelos Scouts. Boys in the fourth and fifth grades become Webelos Scouts. Webelos Scouts do more advanced activities to get ready to graduate into Boy Scouting.
Where you begin in Cub Scouting depends on your age at the time you join. If you join when you're in first grade, you will begin as a Tiger Cub. If you do not join until the third grade, you'll begin as a Bear Cub Scout. You won't have to go back and earn the Tiger Cub and Wolf badges.

Findlay, on June 26/27, 2010. Camp Berry is a Class A
camp with hot showers, flush toilets and an in ground pool.
So, pack your bags and join us for a fun filled weekend.
Registration starts at 10:30 am on Saturday morning and
camp ends at 10:00 am on Sunday. The cost for the
weekend is $35.00 per person and includes all activities,
food and supplies.

Defiance, on July 10/11, 2010. Camp Lakota is a Class A

Webelos throughout the Black Swamp Area Council will have the opportunity to experience some resident camp fun and will earn important Webelos pins and awards at this year’s resident camp. “Celebrating the Adventure*Continuing the Journey” is the theme and your Webelos will have the opportunity to do overnight camping at Camp Berry with six sessions for 2010.
Check with your troop and maybe you and a parent can attend the same week as the Troop is in Camp. The featured activity badge will be Scientist and there will be opportunity for portions of many other activity badges and belt loops. Complete

All Cub Scouts are invited to attend one of seven multiple-day,
theme-oriented Day Camps. These camps are located in your
District and provide great opportunities for advancement and
fun with other Scouts. Activities will vary from camp to camp but
will coordinate with this year’s theme “Celebration of Scouting”. Mom
and Dad, you too can attend as a day leader and be a part of
your sons Day Camp experience.
You should receive an Informational Flyer in the mail that
contains a registration form and all the details about your camp.

on the family calendar and look for the registration form in the
mail.

BSAC District/Council Pinewood Derby Rules. The winners travel on to compete in the District Pinewood Derby. And the winners from the District Pinewood Derbies travel to Lima to compete in the final Council Pinewood Derby.
Each Cub Scout creates their cars from the BSA Pinewood Derby Kits sold at the Scout Shop. The cars are carved from small wooden blocks of wood and are powered by gravity while they run down a track. Check your Pack's calendar for their race day so you can have plenty of time to work on your car. Council Pinewood Derby Date and times.Antarctic ExpeditionThis is an event held at Camp Berry, Findlay, OH for Webelos Dens only (both first and second year Webelos are allowed). Like the klondike Derby, the boys will try to solve real problems using their Scouting skills, but with the Antarctic Expedition, the Webelos will venture to the South Pole and follow the adventures of SIr Earnest Shackleton the great explorer! Webelos will venture out with their Bobcat Sleds (provided) and attempt to solve the mystery of lost treasure in this Antarctic Expedition The fee is $8 per Webelos scout. Fee includes a patch and awards. The Bobcat Sleds embark at 10 am sharp.Mud Hens GameThe Black Swamp Area Council partners with the Toledo Mud Hens for Scout Day at the new Fifth Third Field in May. Scout Day includes tickets to the game, pre-game parade, patch, and overnight stay (bring your tent and personal gear) o the outfield following the game. Cost is $10, a person.Good Turn for America

More than 8,000 members of the Black Swamp Area Council, Boy Scouts of America distribute food collection bags in April for their part in Scouting's Good Turn for America. This is Northwest Ohio's largest volunteer collection for food. The nonperishable canned goods get used to help feed the hungry in the Scout Council's 13 county territory. Scouts and Scouters leave yellow food collection bags the first Saturday and return to pick up the filled bags, which should be placed outside the front doors by 9 AM the next Saturday.
