Save the Date: May 3-4, 2008All families with Cub Scout aged children (boys and girls) were invited to Camp Berry on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4. Many came for the day or packed their bags for the night: the Great Out Of Doors Weekend! We call it the ”Get Out More Tour! " The entire weekend was a family-friendly approach to getting into the great outdoors more, filled with fun activities for the entire family, as well as some beginner and more advanced exposure to outdoor skills, games, camping gear, and safety.

CUB SCOUT RESIDENT CAMP, 2008
Theme is "Americana"Americana is coming to Cub Scout Resident Camp on July 22 – July 24 at Camp Berry. Americana is a themed Camp in which Cub
Scouts, participate in a “Road Trip” across the good ole' USA without having to leave Camp Berry.
Cub Scouts will enjoy Resident Camp hiking from State to State. Will the Cub's find gold in California?, learn what is awaiting for them on
Route 66?, catch the big fish in the Great Lakes?, or find adventure on the Appalachian Trail.
Cost is Youth Fee $65 and the Adult Fee $30

2008 Webelos Scout Resident Camp patchWEBELOS SCOUT RESIDENT CAMP, 2008
Theme is "Defying Gravity"The Black Swamp Area Council is pleased to announce plans for the development of its Webelos Resident Camp.
The inaugural season of WRC – Defying Gravity - will kickoff at Camp Berry on Sunday, June 15th, with the first of four sessions and is open to all scouts heading into their 1st or 2nd year of the Webelos Scout program.
Session One June 15th – June 18th ( check in from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon and will run through Wednesday morning,no later than 10:00 AM)
Session Two June 18th – June 21st ( check in from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Saturday morning, no later than 10:00 AM)
Session Three June 22nd – June 25th (check in from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon and will run through Wednesday morning,no later than 10:00 AM)
Session Four June 25th – June 28th ( check in from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Saturday morning, no later than 10:00 AM)All Webelos Scouts and registered leaders attending the inaugural season of Webelos Resident Camp will receive both a theme-related camp program patch and a limited edition shoulder strip commemorating the inaugural season.
The cost to attend the inaugural season is only $80.00 per scout ($30.00 per adult leader). A 50% deposit is due with the unit registration before May 15, 2008.
The total amount of the Pack’s camp fee must be received by the Black Swamp Area Council – with the individual camper’s health form(s) – and full payment for T-Shirts (if ordered) ten (10) days prior to attending camp.
Adjustments can be made upon arrival should your Pack bring additional campers. (Due to the available number of campers per session, additional campers must be approved by the council prior to check in.) Please note, refunds for paid campers who are unable to attend Webelos Resident Camp will be offered only for that amount paid above the initial 50% deposit. All refund requests must be presented by the cubmaster to the Black Swamp Area Council NO LATER THAN August 1, 2008, and must be presented on the B.S.A.C. Webelos Resident Camp Refund Request Form. All refunds granted to in-council packs will be credited to the unit account.
Included in the camp fee is 4 days / 3 nights of camping at Camp Berry (Two-man tents w/ platforms and cots); all meals and scheduled refreshments; all Activity Pins and Belt Loop sessions offered at W.R.C.; program supplies; and the commemorative 2008 Webelos Resident Camp theme-related program patch. All campers attending will receive also a limited edition C.S.P. denoting involvement in the inaugural season of W.R.C. Please note, Activity Pins and Belt Loops will not be supplied, nor awarded, by the camp.
All W.R.C. activities will take place in areas specially designated for the Webelos Scouts with the exception of the tour of Camp Berry, aquatic and climbing activities, visits to the Camp Berry Trading Post and any Camp Berry/Boy Scout hosted event.
Unit reservations will be accepted in the order they are received (with paid deposits) at the Lima Service Center beginning March 12, 2008. Leaders Packets and Leaders Guides will be available soon. WEBELOS RESIDENT CAMP PROGRAM FACT SHEET
CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP, 2008
Theme is “African Safari ”All Cub Scouts are invited to attend one of seven multiple-day, theme-oriented Day Camps. These camps are located in your District and provide great opportunities for advancement and fun with other Scouts. Activities will vary from camp to camp but will coordinate with this year’s theme “African Safari ”. Mom and Dad, you too can attend as a day leader and be a part of your sons Day Camp experience.
You should receive an Informational Flyer in the mail that contains a registration form and all the details about your camp. Or you can contact your Cubmaster or the Findlay Service Center at 1-800-686-4220. Mark your camps date on the family calendar and look for the registration form in the mail.

MOM AND ME, 2008
Theme is “The Chaotic Camp”
June 21 - 22, 2008Are you afraid of squirrels? Do deer make you run and hide? What about hiking and swimming? Does the thought of being alone with your mom for an entire weekend make you break-out in Hives??? Well then, you'll find this summers' BSAC Dismal Happenings – the “Chaotic Camp” - is not ready for you.
Join us as we try to keep Limey Sprocket from ruining such ordinary activities as: Auspicious Arrows, Crooked Climb, Wrecked Retreat,
Disastrous Disco, and the Putrid Pond.
The cost to attend is only $25.00 per person.
The Mom& Me weekend will be at Camp Berry, south of Findlay, on June 21/22, 2008. Camp Berry is a Class A camp with hot showers,
flush toilets and an in ground pool. So, pack your bags and join us for a fun filled weekend. Registration starts at 10:30 am on Saturday morning and camp ends at 10:00 am on Sunday.

DAD AND LAD, 2008
Theme is "The Pirates of Glengary"
July 12-13, 2008Avast me maties!!! What do I see upon the horizon? Tis the “Pirates of Glengary”. Pirate Cubs and their pa's be heading to Camp Lakota for a
weekend of treasure hunting, fishing, swimming and more. Arrgh!! Cubs and pa's, don't be left behind. Set sail with the rest o' the crew this summer at Black Swamps Dad & Lad weekend –“Pirates of Glengary”.
The Dad & Lad weekend will be at Camp Lakota, south of Defiance, on July 12/13, 2008. So, bring your gear and best pirate talk for a
swashbuckling weekend as we try to find Davey Jones' Locker.
Registration starts at 10:30am on Saturday morning and camp ends at 10:00am on Sunday. The cost to attend is only $25.00 per person.

Pinewood Derby
Each Pack runs its own Pinewood Derby using the
BSAC District/Council Pinewood Derby Rules. The winners travel on to compete in the District Pinewood Derby. And the winners from the District Pinewood Derbies travel to Lima to compete in the final Council Pinewood Derby.
Each Cub Scout creates their cars from the BSA Pinewood Derby Kits sold at the Scout Shop. The cars are carved from small wooden blocks of wood and are powered by gravity while they run down a track. Check your Pack's calendar for their race day so you can have plenty of time to work on your car. Council Pinewood Derby Date and times.
Antarctic Expedition
This is an event held at Camp Berry, Findlay, OH for Webelos Dens only (both first and second year Webelos are allowed). Like the klondike Derby, the boys will try to solve real problems using their Scouting skills, but with the Antarctic Expedition, the Webelos will venture to the South Pole and follow the adventures of SIr Earnest Shackleton the great explorer! Webelos will venture out with their Bobcat Sleds (provided) and attempt to solve the mystery of lost treasure in this Antarctic Expedition The fee is $8 per Webelos scout. Fee includes a patch and awards. The Bobcat Sleds embark at 10 am sharp.Mud Hens Game
The Black Swamp Area Council partners with the Toledo Mud Hens for Scout Day at the new Fifth Third Field in May. Scout Day includes tickets to the game, pre-game parade, patch, and overnight stay (bring your tent and personal gear) o the outfield following the game. Cost is $10, a person.

More than 8,000 members of the Black Swamp Area Council, Boy Scouts of America distribute food collection bags in April for their part in Scouting's Good Turn for America. This is Northwest Ohio's largest volunteer collection for food. The nonperishable canned goods get used to help feed the hungry in the Scout Council's 13 county territory. Scouts and Scouters leave yellow food collection bags the first Saturday and return to pick up the filled bags, which should be placed outside the front doors by 9 AM the next Saturday.
Activities that are not a part of the Black Swamp Area Council Programs but are available for BSA Units. Events that do not conflict with the BSAC Council Programming Calendar will be posted on this page. You must make contact with the listed Council for materials and supplies needed or further information.
